New York Film Academy in Kyiv!

FILM.UA Faculty presented two practical workshops by the famous
American film school New York Film Academy (NYFA).

Introductory lecture was held on December 2, workshops
for screenwriting and producing – on December 2, 3 and 4, 2016.

Workshops lectures included in class, supervised practical exercises for immediate application of topics introduced and discussed.

Both workshops were suitable for beginners as well as professionals interested in learning the U.S. standard practices of producing and screenwriting for the film and television industries.

Several acting-related elements included, the Screenwriting Workshop was suitable for actors and participants interested in acting.


Producing Workshop included practical exercises on the project creation and development – brainstorming, creative producing, finance, marketing and distribution, pitching, business plan, TV project bible, production management, crew’s work – hierarchy and logistics, scheduling and budgeting.

Screenwriting Workshop included practical exercises on writing and performing monologues, creating one day plays, as well as: hooking audience with exciting movie concept, how to make audience emotional to the character, script structure, theme, climax, screenwriting for television, hooks, dialogue and subtext.

Producing Workshop teacher

Lydia Cedrone: Head of MFA Feature Productions in the graduate programs at the Los Angeles branch, long-time Chair and current Interim Chair of NYFA Producing Program. MBA, NYU Stern School of Business and BA, Boston College.

Lydia Cedrone has over 20 years’ experience in the film industry. She has worked for companies such as The Walt Disney Co., Trimark Pictures and Savoy Pictures, also has successfully collaborated with the producer and director Michael Mann for over two years. In particular, she curated production process of such movies as Ali and The Insider. Developed and produced two feature films, including The Betrayed movie by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Screenwriting Workshop teacher

Paul Brown: television producer and writer. Teacher of the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. Author of more than thirty scenarios, multiple Emmy and Golden Globe nominee and the winner of the Edgar, awarded by the Mystery Writers of America. Having worked in the film industry for more than twenty years, Paul Brown wrote scripts for such TV series as The X-Files, Quantum Leap, Pacific Blue, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise. He also co-wrote and produced the feature film Heaven’s Rain.

Among recent works – the screenplay for the Disney’s Camp Rock with the participation of Jonas Brothers band, which became one of the box office hitters in America and Europe. 

Workshops were held on December 2–4 at FILM.UA Faculty, 22 Zakrevsky Str., Kyiv (FILM.UA studio, 2nd entrance).
